England striker Wayne Rooney has returned to training after sitting out Monday's session with an ankle knock suffered against the United States.

Left-back Ashley Cole, who is usually given an extra day's rest because of an ongoing ankle complaint, was also back in training action in Rustenburg.

The only absentee was Ledley King, who could be out for three weeks after injuring his groin against the USA.

Midfielder Gareth Barry is now available to face Algeria on Friday.

The Manchester City player missed England's opening group C match, which they drew 1-1, but insists he is now fully recovered from the ankle problem suffered in early May against Tottenham which threatened his participation in the World Cup.bbc online.
